The Mumbai Police arrested British businessman Raj Kundra, husband of actor and entrepreneur Shilpa Shetty, on Monday in connection with an adult film racket.
Kundra was arrested by the city police in a case involving the creation of pornographic films and their distribution through mobile applications, according to the city police.
“There was a case registered with Crime Branch Mumbai in Feb 2021 about the creation of pornographic films and publishing them through some Apps. We’ve arrested Mr. Raj Kundra in this case on 19/7/21 as he appears to be the key conspirator of this. We have sufficient evidence regarding this,” the Mumbai police said in a press statement.
Under the Information Technology Act, Kundra has been charged with cheating, engaging in obscene acts in public places, and openly showing or circulating pirated content or literature.
It would generally be a daylong shoot at a leased home on the outskirts of Mumbai, such as Madh Island, according to cops. A minimum of five to six people would be needed to serve as directors, dialogue writers, location Scouters, and web app developers. According to the authorities, these apps grew in popularity during the lockdown, with some having tens of thousands of users.
Poonam Pandey is said to have filed a petition at Bombay High Court against Raj Kundra and his associates. Kundra and his collaborators have been illegally using her content, according to the model actress, who also indicated that their contract has been canceled.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had previously questioned Kundra in connection with a money-laundering investigation involving late gangster Iqbal Memon alias Iqbal Mirchi and DHFL promoters Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhawan. The agency is looking into some illicit assets that were obtained by a dead henchman of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim and are being treated as proceeds of crime by the agency.
Pandey’s claims were refuted by Kundra and his associate, Saurabh Kushwah, who said they had not received any notice as of yet.
